Paragliding Travel Insurance FAQs
1. Does this Travel Insurance cover Paragliding (Amateur Competitions)?
No, it does not. Please go to our Paragliding Competition Travel Insurance page for a quote.
2. Does your Travel Insurance cover Paragliding outside of Europe?
Yes, this Policy will cover you worldwide and not just in Europe.
3. Does this cover Tandem Paragliding?
Yes, this will cover Tandem Paragliding as long as you are a Qualified Paraglider or the person flying the paraglide is qualified.
Please Note: Pilot or Passenger, you must have Travel Insurance, including Paragliding cover.
4. Can you also do Paramotoring and Hang Gliding on these policies?
Yes, paramotoring is rated for travel insurance purposes the same as paragliding and hanging gliders on the same trip with no extra insurance cost.
Please Note: No Personal Liability or Personal Accident is on a Paramotoring policy.
5. Is Personal Liability Covered?
No, personal liability is not included; however, if you are a member of BHPA, your membership also consists of a third-party liability insurance policy.
6. Which is safer: Paragliding or Paramotoring?
Pilot error is the cause of most accidents. Paramotoring is when you have control of an engine and are not as exposed to the natural elements needed to Paraglide, such as wind and thermal air, as much as you can control the machine. For both activities, it's important to train correctly and learn slowly.
7. Am I covered if I am injured on the first day of my Paragliding trip?
Yes, you will be covered for your trip if the medical advice from the medical assistance company says you should return home.
8. Is Rescue covered?
Yes, it is; it is part of the Medical Cover. If medical assistance deems it necessary, you will be recovered from the mountain. See the Blog here on Mountain Rescue.

Any costs incurred if you require Rescue and Emergency transfer to a hospital or clinic.
These costs are covered for a period not exceeding 72 hours from when assistance is first summoned.

Paragliding Safety Advice
- Check the weather before you fly. Wind and Thermal conditions.
- Learn slowly, and don't be over-ambitious when you start Paragliding.
- Check your equipment thoroughly before you fly to ensure it is not faulty.
- Use a Tracking Device such as a Garmin IReach.
- Advise friends, fellow flyers and local clubs exactly where you will fly.
- Make sure you get your training at BHPA Registered School.
Common Injuries whilst Paragliding
In general, the sport's safety is directly influenced by the skill and sense of the Pilot. A safe Pilot will not fly at sites that are too challenging for their abilities and will not pass on days when the weather is turbulent.
Paragliding accidents occur more frequently in a foreign country because pilots are less familiar with the area and climate.
The great exposure of the Pilot's legs and feet to the ground during landing can result in strains, fractures, and broken bones if landings are misjudged or impacted by adverse weather conditions.
Fatalities in Paragliding are rare, but when they do happen, it is often because the Pilot was attempting to push themselves past their limits for a more exciting flight or another goal or due to inexperience when a Pilot is doing something that is strictly warned against.
